Marijuana stops child’s severe seizures

“Saundra Young of CNN.com delved into the heated debate of medical marijuana and children, in her story about a little girl who has a rare, and severe form of epilepsy called Dravet Syndrome. While the debate continues, the pro-legalization side may have won a small victory in the form of Charlotte Figi, 6, who was given her life back by marijuana…

Desperate for a treatment, Charlotte’s father Matt searched the Internet and eventually found a boy with a similar case in which medical marijuana helped his seizures. The Figi’s turned to the Stanley brothers, one of Colorado’s largest marijuana growers and dispensary owners, for help.

“These six brothers were crossbreeding a strain of marijuana low in THC, the compound in marijuana that’s psychoactive, and high in CBD, which has medicinal properties but no psychoactivity,” writes Young. But the Stanley brothers didn’t know what to do with this particular strain, as no one seemed to want to buy it. Then they met Charlotte.

The first time Charlotte tried a small dose of cannabis oil, the results were astounding:

“When she didn’t have those three, four seizures that first hour, that was the first sign,” Paige recalled. “And I thought well, ‘Let’s go another hour, this has got to be a fluke.'”

The Stanley brothers started the Realm of Caring Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides this particular strain of medical marijuana to adults and children suffering from a host of diseases. The strain used by Charlotte and 41 other patients is affectionately called Charlotte’s Web.

Charlotte’s seizures stopped for seven days after her first dose and today she is eating, and walking on her own — even riding a bike, her parents say. Charlotte gets a dose of the cannabis oil twice a day in her food and her seizures are down to 2 to 3 per month.

“I literally see Charlotte’s brain making connections that haven’t been made in years,” Matt said. “My thought now is, why were we the ones that had to go out and find this cure? This natural cure? How come a doctor didn’t know about this? How come they didn’t make me aware of this?”

Medical marijuana stopped girl’s seizures when nothing else would – msn

“Charlotte Figi had her first seizure in 2006, when she was 3 months old. Her parents, Matt and Paige Figi, had every test conducted, yet no cause could be found. Years passed, and the seizures continued. Charlotte took medications, but she stopped developing cognitively. She was finally diagnosed with a severe form of epilepsy, Dravet Syndrome. Matt discovered the case of a boy with Dravet who’d been helped by low-level THC medical marijuana. By that point, Charlotte couldn’t walk, talk or eat, and she was having up to 300 grand mal seizures a week.

Desperate to find a solution, Matt and Paige applied for a medical marijuana card, making Charlotte, then 5, the youngest applicant in Colorado. They gave her a small amount of cannabis oil. The seizures stopped. Now Charlotte takes the oil twice daily with food, has only a few seizures a week, and is walking, talking and riding her bike. “My thought now is why were we the ones that had to go out and find this cure? This natural cure?” says Matt. “How come [a doctor] didn’t make me aware of this?””

“…Charlotte gets a dose of the cannabis oil twice a day in her food.

Gedde found three to four milligrams of oil per pound of the girl’s body weight stopped the seizures.

Today, Charlotte, 6, is thriving. Her seizures only happen two to three times per month, almost solely in her sleep. Not only is she walking, she can ride her bicycle. She feeds herself and is talking more and more each day.

“I literally see Charlotte’s brain making connections that haven’t been made in years,” Matt said. “My thought now is, why were we the ones that had to go out and find this cure? This natural cure? How come a doctor didn’t know about this? How come they didn’t make me aware of this?”

The marijuana strain Charlotte and now 41 other patients use to ease painful symptoms of diseases such as epilepsy and cancer has been named after the little girl who is getting her life back one day at a time.

It’s called Charlotte’s Web.”

Marijuana CAN Cure Alcohol Addiction

“Alcoholics, pay attention.

I can hear all of you boozers saying, “Just because I enjoy Scotch, it’s no sign that I am addicted.” Well, let’s face it Dude or Dudette, you are a drunk. You have a lot of company. Booze kills about as many as deep fried hamburgers (heart attacks) and is only slightly less lethal than tobacco. Are you listening?

Many current articles lump alcohol with drugs, both licit and illicit. Marijuana is better and safer than all of them.

YOU BOOZERS, NOW YOU’VE BEEN TOLD.”

Marijuana cannabinoids found to help combat autism

cannabinoids

“(NaturalNews) The cannabinoid compounds naturally found in many varieties of cannabis, also known more commonly as marijuana, may help children with autism spectrum disorders experience dramatic behavioral improvements, and potentially even full recovery from their symptoms. These are the findings of a new study published in the journal Nature Communications that help reinforce the growing body of evidence which shows that medicinal cannabinoids hold incredible potential in both treating and potentially curing chronic illness…

Can non-psychoactive cannabinoid compounds actually cure chronic illness?

Though the researchers were quick to deny that cannabinoids hold any potential at actually curing autism, which more than likely was a politically-motivated denial rather than a factual admission, other research and actual case studies suggest that cannabinoid compounds are, indeed, powerful enough to mitigate many or all of the symptoms associated with autism, as well as many other diseases.”

Migraine Cure: Marijuana Gives Miracle Relief

MMMA LEAF AND SYMBOL_full

“I guess I was a bit excited when I wrote this and my first article on the subject “Marijuana VS Migraines: Modern Medical Miracle” in Salem-News.com June 30th 2008. Then I was excited about it because the best treatment I had used was Demerol and Benadry injections which knocked the patient out for at least a whole day. This is much better.

Recently in Salem-News.com, a story appeared by Dr. Dianne Stafford, October 3rd 2012 entitled, “Not Just A Headache: Eleven Ways Not To Treat A Migraine”. I hoped that it would be some good stuff but it was a fizzling blah. She didn’t mention one treatment which was a good idea because there are some 20 different pharmaceuticals most of which don’t work for most people. For a migraine sufferer her list is worthless.

I don’t consider myself any great stuff about migraine therapy but I had a real opportunity in this regard when Oregon legalized marijuana for about 10 diseases including severe pain, spasms ( of smooth muscle such as blood vessels in the brain), and nausea and vomiting. Cannabis/marijuana works well for all of these. I must have ended up with about 50 migraine patients who had previously been prescribed or given dozens of poorly working drugs.

At the time no other physician/pharmacologist had published that cannabis/marijuana was effective for migraines, so I published my article. I received 32 responses on 8 pages from July 1st, 2008 till September 1st, 2011. Some are quite short but others are long extolling the effectiveness of cannabis/marijuana therapy. You can read my article and comments. I will reprint a few of the shorter ones:”

New Study: Cannabis Can Slow, Cure Alzheimer’s Disease

“A new study conducted by researchers at the Roskamp Institute in Florida, and published in the journal Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience, has found that cannabis can slow the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease, and may in fact be able to halt it entirely.”

MMMA LEAF AND SYMBOL_full

“According to Corbin Bachmeier, Ph.D – who’s the lead researcher of the study – Alzheimer’s Disease is “the result of impaired Aβ [Amyloid-β protein] clearance from the brain”. According to this study, cannabis can solve this problem, making it a potential treatment…

This research validates past studies (including some presented earlier this year, as well as a 2006 study), though is the first to actually explain why cannabis can be beneficial to the disease.”

Marijuana: Miracle Cure For Crohn’s Disease?

“Crohn’s disease is a autoimmunity deficiency in the gastronomical tract that can cause anything from mild stomach pains to vomiting and in extreme cases, chronic bloody diarrhea. There’s no cure for the disorder but now, researchers in Israel say they’ve found evidence that marijuana causes complete remission of the disease.

This news comes the Meir Medical Center in Israel, which treated 21 patients suffering from Crohn’s disease. 11 of the patients smoked two joints per day of cannabis sativa, which the researchers believed would provide anti-inflammatory relief, while the other (unlucky) 10 were only given a placebo. “The marijuana plant Cannabis sativa has been reported to produce beneficial effects for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, but this has not been investigated in controlled trials,” the researchers argued. “We performed a prospective trial to determine whether cannabis can induce remission in patients with Crohn’s disease.”

Five of the 11 patients who smoked the weed, the study, which was published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine, states, acheived “total remission” of their disease, whereas only four of the 10 patients who didn’t smoke the pot reported only slight improvement of their condition. Needless to say, the study, while promising, only seems to suggest that more research should be undertaken. “Further studies, with larger patient groups and a nonsmoking mode of intake, are warranted,” the scientists argued.”

Cannabis Cures Cancer Without Poison

cannabis oil and Cancer cures

“Isn’t it strange that doctors can legally administer poison in the form of chemotherapy and radiation as well as numerous toxic pharmaceuticals and yet one of nature’s medicines- found to greatly assist cancer patients- which can be prepared by any common person without harmful side effects, is illegal and can send a person to prison for its possession?

There are numerous studies, now spanning the globe, revealing the miraculous healing properties of cannabis oil and its ability to cure cancers and other ailments without poisoning the body.

Cannabis oil, or Hemp oil  contains many healing benefits including a high amount of protein as well as essential fatty acids, including the harder to come by GLA’s – known to reduce inflammation and slow the growth of cancer cells.  As far as essential fatty acids go, we need a particular ratio of Omega 3, Omega 6 and GLA’s  in our body for good health.  Omega 3 comes largely from fish, Omega 6 can be found in many of our cooking oils such as olive and sunflower, but GLA is only found in a few sources such as borage oil, spirulina and hemp.  Hemp oil happens to contain the perfect 2:5:1 ratio of omega 3, 6 and GLA’s. Interesting.

As far as cancer goes, the research proof has been out there for a while…

Cannabis oil has been shown to shrink and even cure cancers in all the studies conducted without poisoning the body. Isn’t it time to give the people a safe, legal alternative to such an ailment? Let us put aside our fears and greed and support nature in being our medicine, so she can further support us in healing.”
